6 colorful experiences for young and old

Do you like teaching physics to your children in a fun way or amaze them with various experiments? Then these 6 experiences are perfect for your next hobby!

We’ll show you how you can experiment with simple things like coffee filters, paper towels, shaving cream, and a little paint.

In the workshop :

  • Coffee filter
  • Felt
  • Water

At work !

Cut out a rainbow-shaped coffee filter and color both ends of the arch with squares in typical rainbow colors.

Then pour a little water on a plate and dip the ends of the arch in it. Now you can marvel at how the colors come up through the coffee filter and form a rainbow.

2. Weight distribution

In the workshop :

  • 3 cardboard cups
  • 3 wooden picks
  • 1 glass of water

At work !

If you put a glass on wooden sticks and fill it with water, do you think the sticks will break? False! Place three cardboard cups upside down in a triangle and place the wooden sticks on top, as shown in the photo.

Now place a glass on the wooden sticks and fill it with water. The weight distribution ensures stability, so that the glass remains in balance.

3. Water moving

In the workshop :

  • 7 transparent plastic cups
  • Dyes of different colors
  • Paper towels

At work !

Half-fill four plastic cups with water and mix the water and food coloring in each of the four cups. Place the remaining three cups in front of the spaces between the already filled cups and connect the cups with paper towels. You will notice that the water moves over the paper towels in the empty cups and the colors blend together. Cool, right?

4. Lava lamp

In the workshop :

  • 1 glass of water
  • Shaving cream
  • Food coloring

At work !

A really pleasant effect, which can almost serve as decoration. Just fill a glass with water, spray shaving foam on the surface of the water and run different food coloring on the foam: a few seconds later you can admire a wonderful spectacle of colors in the glass.

5. Colorful volcano

In the workshop :

  • Plastic cup
  • Baking powder
  • Food coloring
  • Vinegar

At work !

Half fill the plastic cups with baking powder. Then put half a teaspoon of food coloring in each cup, then pour vinegar over it – and watch the colorful volcanoes spit lava.

6. Freeze the water immediately

In the workshop :

  • Plastic bottle
  • Water
  • Food coloring

At work !

Pour water into a bottle and color it with food coloring for better viewing. Then place the bottle in the freezer for an hour. Now the water is cold, but not frozen. But you can change that by tapping the table with the bottle: the water in the bottle freezes instantly!

Even though some of the experiments should be done in the bathroom or on a waterproof surface instead, each experience is worth it, as it is always fascinating to see the great effects that one can achieve with very little means. amazes young and old alike. Have fun !
