3 ideas for homemade flower pots with succulents

Succulents are perfect for beautiful decorations without too much effort, as they require very little water. They store water in their leaves, stems and roots and can thus easily survive long periods of drought. Succulents are therefore ideal for beginners and those who don’t have a green thumb.
However, more seasoned gardeners also appreciate succulents because these undemanding, but still pretty plants can be planted in quirky containers such as mugs, glasses or tea boxes.

You can also make these extraordinary flowerpots yourself. Here are 3 flowerpot ideas that make succulents even more beautiful.

1. Cement flowerpot

In the workshop :

  • Water
  • Cement
  • Balloon
  • Potting soil
  • Succulent plant

At work !

1.1 Mix the cement with water and spread it on an inflated balloon, leaving the bottom side of the balloon uncovered. Wait until the cement is dry, cut the balloon and remove it.

1.2 Fill the cement pot with the potting soil and put a succulent plant in it.

2. Succulents in a wooden frame

In the workshop :

  • Wooden box
  • Wire mesh
  • Stapler
  • Wood glue
  • Wooden frame
  • Painting
  • Potting soil
  • Succulent plants

At work !

2.1 Secure the wire mesh with a stapler to a wooden box. Then glue a frame on the box with wood glue.

2.2 Fill the box with potting soil. Carefully pass the succulents through the mesh and plant them.

3. Succulents in plaster hands

In the workshop :

  • Casting alginate
  • Plaster
  • Water
  • Potting soil
  • Succulent plant

At work !

3.1 Mix the casting alginate with water. Form a bowl with your hands, press them into the mass and wait about 5 minutes for the alginate to harden.

3.2 Mix the plaster with water and pour it into the alginate cavity; then let the plaster harden for 24 hours.

3.3 Remove the alginate and fill your hands with potting soil before planting a succulent.

Advice : If succulents are to stay in your homemade flower pots for a long time, carefully poke holes in the bottom of each pot to prevent them from absorbing too much water. You can also cover the bottom of flower pots with a layer of sand or pebbles before putting in the potting soil.
